A pregnant 18-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man have been identified by State Police as the victims of Saturday's fatal car crash on Interstate 95 North. Kelly Taborda, 18, and James Sorto, 42, were both residents of North Bergen, N.J.
The two were killed when Yadira Torres, 26, of Hartford, merged her Dodge SUV into the center lane near Exit 10 and hit a tractor-trailer driven by Sorto. The trailer flipped and caught fire. Sorto was pronounced dead at the scene, but a passersby pulled Taborda from the passenger seat. She was taken to Stamford Hospital, where she later died of her injuries. According to a set up in her memory, Taborda was a student at North Bergen High School.
Torres, a mother of four, was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter, operating a vehicle under the influence and reckless driving. She was arraigned in Stamford on Monday.
