Stamford resident Lisa Lacen-Romero, a Trinity Catholic High School graduate, has made history in her family. When she enrolled at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., she became the first woman in her family to attend college. Darien-based Person-to-Person has rewarded Lacen-Romero’s trailblazing achievement by giving her a Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.
The award is presented annually to two students who demonstrate responsibility, integrity and community service commitment. Each receives $1,000 to use for any academic purpose. A number of recipients are the first in their families to attend college.
Lacen-Romero is pursuing a dual major in sociology and psychology and plans to become a child psychologist. For the past eight years, she has worked with children and infants with mental and physical disabilities and who have suffered from abuse. At Trinity, she was in the Poets and Writers Club and was a member of the National Honor Society.
