The Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer team won four events at Sunday's U.S. Finals, the last and most significant cheerleading competition of the season.
The Xtreme teams Shine, Shimmer, Dazzle and the co-ed Blaze won their divisions at the U.S. Finals in Providence, R.I. Providence was one of eight sites to host the finals over a month. Nearly 1,350 teams compete in the U.S. finals, which are aimed at crowning champions in all division and levels of cheer and dance.
The victories capped a tremendous year for the Xtreme teams. The 14-and-under Junior team, the Shimmer, also won a national championship in Orlando, Fla., in March. The cheerleaders are coached by Mike and Dana Talbot. Girls from throughout Main Street Connect communities compete on the Xtreme teams.
Xtreme Cheer will hold tryouts for next season May 21 and 22. The tryouts will be held at 6 Soundview Ave., Norwalk. Visit the team's website for more information.
