The Westhill High School softball team beat Staples — again. Three weeks ago, Staples head coach Mark Giordano protested his team's 5-3 loss to undefeated Westhill after his pitcher Sam Saccomano accidentally dropped the ball before starting her windup.
Saccomano was called for an illegal pitch, and Westhill's Ali Souza was allowed to score. Upon review, it was determined the umpire was incorrect in calling it an illegal pitch as Saccomano had not started her windup.

The Xtreme teams Shine, Shimmer, Dazzle and the co-ed Blaze won their divisions at the U.S. Finals in Providence, R.I. Providence was one of eight sites to host the finals over a month. Runners from Stamford were among the 354 finishers in Sunday's 34th annual Mother's Day 10K road race at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. Bridgeport's Wantuil Souza won the men's race, and Norwalk's Julie Heaphy won the women's division. The race was sponsored by the Lightfoot Running Club.

Westhill's junior varsity baseball team beat Danbury Wednesday, 8-6. Jesse Koretz pitched 5 2/3 solid innings to pick up the win and was relieved by Dalton Abel, who finished the game with a four-out save.
