Former Toquam Magnet Elementary School teacher, Doreen M. O'Leary will take over as vice principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School in Weston beginning in July, the school announced. O'Leary will replace Kevin Santiana, who is resigning to return to teaching.
Since 2009, O'Leary, a New Canaan resident, has been the project manager for the GE Foundation Developing Futures in Education Program in the Stamford Public School system. From 2007 to 2009, she was the Curriculum Associate for Elementary Math at Stamford and she was a third and fourth grade teacher at Toquam Magnet Elementary School in Stamford from 2001 to 2007.
Before becoming a teacher, O'Leary worked in the financial world as vice president of market information Group at the Bank One Corp. and as assistant vice president of corporate banking group at Security Pacific National Bank in California.
O'Leary earned a B.A. in Political Science from Georgetown , an MBA from UCLA Graduate School of Management, and an MA from Sacred Heart University in Elementary Education.
She was a member of the New Canaan Board of Education from 1993-2001, and two of those years as president. O'Leary also participates in the Connecticut Center for School Change, "a professional network of school administrators from across Connecticut focused a achieving student achievement." She is also considered a "critical friend" for the Tri-State Consortium which includes a group of high performing school districts, of which Weston is a part.
