With several principal positions open for the 2011-12 school year, Stamford Public Schools decided to add an extra step in the selection process. The finalists will visit the schools with openings next week, Superintendent Joshua Starr said during Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting.
“We are looking for local input,” Starr said of the interviews to be done at the schools. The interview committees are made up of two parents, two teachers, a special education teacher/support staff, paraprofessional, current principal, Stamford Education Association president and co-president,
Former Toquam Magnet Elementary School teacher, Doreen M. O'Leary will take over as vice principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School in Weston beginning in July, the school announced. O'Leary will replace Kevin Santiana, who is resigning to return to teaching.
Since 2009, O'Leary, a New Canaan resident, has been the project manager for the GE Foundation Developing Futures in Education Program in the Stamford Public School system. From 2007 to 2009, she was the Curriculum Associate for Elementary Math at Stamford and she was a third and fourth grade teacher at Toquam Magnet Elementary
