After a busy couple of weeks on the local running scene, it turns a bit quieter this weekend with only a few area races for recreational runners.
In Rowayton on Saturday, the 13th annual Miles for Myles 5K fun run and walk will be held at the Rowayton Community Center beginning at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. There is no online registration. Race proceeds benefit the Myles Beringer Foundation, which directly funds local projects to improve the lives of children. The foundation has raised more than $240,000 and provides funding for pediatric cancer research at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
A newcomer to the race scene is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pineapple Classic 5K at the Greenwich Polo Grounds at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. It's a Hawaiian-themed race with obstacles – figure on getting dirty – and will have a post-race luau. Find out more information on the race website.
Some runners got an early start to the weekend Thursday at the RFR Realty Corporate 5k Run/Walk in Stamford. There were 1,598 finishers, according to the race website. Geoffrey Williams (16:04) and Sharon Lemberger (17:47) were the men's and women's winners, respectively.
Things get cooking again next weekend with races in Weston, Wilton and Greenwich among the traditional Memorial Day running fare.
