The Mid Fairfield Stars under-14-2 girls hockey team opened the Tier II national tournament Wednesday with a 7-1 win over the Manchester Lady Hurricanes in Anaheim, Calif. The Stars under-14-1 team will play in the Tier I national tournament next week.
The under-14-2 team includes Riverside’s Julia Cochran, Darien’s Finley Frechette, Stamford’s Cassandra Miolene and Fairfield’s Alexis Banquer.
The team qualified for the national tournament by going 5-0 in the New England Regional in Exeter, N.H., earlier this month. The Stars defeated Manchester, 2-1, for the regional championship.
The Stars are 53-11-5 on the season, including a 9-0-1 record in the Connecticut Hockey Conference.
Other team members include Emily Yue, Madeline Kabasakalian, Kate Klimaszewski, Olivia Good, Abbie Lang, Kerry Sheehan-Delany, Katherine Jackson, Cassidy Pratt, Denise Landry, Marykate Thompson, Marykate Thompson, Mackennzie Cattaruzza and Ciara Clare. James Yue is the team’s coach.
