The second annual Celebration of Life Walkathon sponsored by the Josh and Tyler Stephens Memorial Fund will take place Saturday, April 30, at Cove Island Park in Stamford. Money raised will go toward the fund, which awards children for athletic and academic achievements.
“This is our second time hosting this walkathon, and last year we’ve not only accomplished our fundraising goals but continued to increase awareness for the fund,” Davette Stephens, Josh and Tyler’s mother, said in a statement. “With the help of Stamford businesses and community leaders, we anticipate doubling event attendance in 2011.”
Josh, 9, and Tyler, 5, died in a car accident July 7, 2007. Their family started the memorial fund and have given more than 15 elementary and middle school boys funds to play in the Stamford Youth Football League, five boys to play on the Stamford Youth Basketball travel team, several college scholarships and other opportunities to students.
Registration for the walkathon is free, and all walkers will receive a free T-shirt and other giveaways provided by the event’s sponsors. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. so walkers can arrive at their convenience. Breakfast and lunch will be served at the pavilion.
Donations and registration can be done online at the memorial fund’s website. For more information contact Davette at 9.
